A Political System Based On Empathy
What would it be like if politics was founded upon empathy? it would mean a revolution in how we choose our politicians and how our politicians think and behave. Can we give such an alternative political process a chance? Imagine politicians who are good listeners, who ask questions of others instead of make assumptions. We would instead have politicians who can place themselves in "the oppositions" point of view, and who can be flexible over where the dialogue might lead. Instead of seeking to control and dominate, our politicians would be seeking to support, enable, and care.

I think this would be a great world to live in, but until we succeed in waking the general population out of the massive stupor they are living in, I don't see many politicians making this change.
If this world is to exist, it needs to start at the bottom. Until people start seeing through all the BS and voting for people who reflect these values, we are going to have to struggle with the same self aggrandizing leaders who will act in their own selfish interests at the expense of the masses. We will keep having to deal with wars for profit and a health care system that has incentives to deny care rather then cure, and all the rest of the corporatization and globalization issues that we can't get away from.
Change has to begin at the bottom, because that is where the suffering is. The people at the top have no incentive to change, and will fight against the change for as long as they are able simply because that is what is in their self interest to do. You'll get a lot farther by convincing the people to act in their own self interest then you will be asking politicians to act against theirs. I'm with you in spirit, but I don't really know where to start making this change happen. Most people simply don't want to wake up. Maybe I'm just a pessimist. I hope I'm wrong (does that make me an optimist now?)
