Biofuels Deemed A Greenhouse Threat
By NY Times
Biofuels have been considered to alleviate greenhouse emissions. The push has therefore been applauded by environmentalists. However, new studies show that the benefits of biofuels may not be what we hoped for. The new study by the journal Science claim that the use of biofuels increase global environmental cost. The destruction of natural ecosystems, and rain forests, so land can be converted to cropland, release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere when they are burned and plowed. Croplands also absorb far less carbon than rain forests. Many experts now feel that anticipated biofuels will actually increase global warming, as per the destruction of rain forests and therefore more research must be done before new policies are legislated.
We are going the wrong way about ecologie resrdes, and alternate fuel.As noted above, pollution of one kind or another will still exist. The solution which seems obvious but people don't want to hear is, reduction on consumption of fuel, regadless that it is fossil fuel or vegetable fuel.Just think, visualize this:Prohibiting any vehicle to carry persons from one point to another, to be more than a four cylinders and minimum 30 MPG.Commercial vehicle to be accordingly reduced in consumption. We could reduce emission and demand for fuel to at least half of the current needs. We are so enamored with our big, monstruous, gaz guzzling, polluting suv's that we are ruining our environment without thinking about the future of our kids.
