Dear Fellow Global Citizen,

Some people say the world's coming apart at the seams and there's not much we can do about it.

To which we say: Just watch us.

The Green World Campaign is a network of global citizens finding new ways to care for our world. Like helping to turn barren lands around the world greener, right now, with a mouse-click and a quarter.

And this spring, we're greening Ethiopia.

Over the past few decades, Ethiopia has lost three-fourths of its remaining trees. (The story: the disastrous policies of its former dictator; villagers in dire need of firewood and cash.)

I've just returned from a journey there, and it's not a pretty picture: Ethiopia, birthplace of humanity, is down to 3% forest cover. The land has become barren, and more people are going hungry.

But you can do something, right now, that will really change that picture.

Plant trees. Lots of trees.

The Ethiopian people have embarked on a path back to self-sufficiency and a flourishing environment. And they've invited us to help them plant 10 million seedlings this season.

The non-profit Green World Campaign has arranged a low-cost program where every 25 cents donated now is matched with local resources and willing hands to plant one tree. So for each tax-deductible dollar you give, our non-profit African partners will plant 4 seedlings. We can "green" an entire region, and start changing the world one place at a time. Will you donate?

Your trees will be planted and tended by village farmers who know their many benefits: natural fertilizer and animal forage; more food crops; sustainable harvested firewood and building materials; shade, moisture, even water from renewed springs. (And biodiversity. And places of beauty and peace.)

A seed doesn't just beget a tree-it grows a village!

This is the start of a five-year, 100 million trees campaign that could dramatically change Ethiopia for generations to come. And the opportunity is now: planting season has already begun.

Each tree you plant will absorb a ton of CO2 over its lifetime, combating global warming. This means each tax-deductible gift you make to the Green World Campaign - whether $5, $500, or $5000 - helps protect our imperiled planet.

Our long-term plan: plant a billion trees worldwide, helping to restore the economy and ecology of the world's poorest places - and take a bite out of global warming. We now have partners from Mexico to India who have begun to "green the world" in their own countries.

We started the Green World Campaign with the seed of a question: "What could we accomplish as global citizens if we really put our minds to it?"

The answer (with your help): Just about anything.
